Chairs can be an invaluable prop for anyone practising yoga, but particularly for those with mobility or balance issues. Not everyone finds it easy to get up and down off the floor.

Lorna has been incorporating chairs into her yoga teaching for many years. She has taught groups and individuals who are unable to stand for long periods and produced Gentle Chair-Based Yoga classes and videos online during the lockdowns.

Like mat-based yoga, chair-based yoga includes breathwork, dynamic and still posture work, and relaxation. The aims are the same too: after each sessions, you should feel freer in both mind and body, calmer, yet more energised.

Gentle Chair-Based Classes are currently held in St Mary’s Chapel Hall in Kings Worthy on Monday mornings – a great way to get to know people, as well as to improve your balance, strength, flexibility and leave feeling calm and relaxed. Go to the Classes page to book, or contact Lorna directly.

Corporate Seated Yoga can be booked for one-off workshops or regular sessions at your workplace. It’s a great way to help counteract tension that builds throughout the work day, and chair and desk-based yoga is practical for when there is simply not space to roll out mats, and for when it’s not easy to change clothing. They can run from 30 minutes upwards.
