Lorna founded Luna Yoga & Health in 2003. She is a Teacher and Foundation Course Tutor with the British Wheel Of Yoga and is volunteer South Hampshire Rep for the BWY. In her teaching, she draws inspiration from a range of yoga styles, including Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vini, leading her to develop her own style of Hatha Yoga Flow, which she uses in her general classes. Her Restorative Yoga sessions have also gained in popularity over the past few years and are on offer fortnightly in winter.Â
Lorna also teaches Yoga For Specific Groups, including cyclists, pianists, desk workers, teens and chair yoga for people with restricted mobility, as well as NHS referrals for people struggling with mental health.
Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga (SUP Yoga) creates a perfect blend of Lorna’s love of yoga, water and the outdoors. Lorna introduced SUP Yoga to the Hamble River in Hampshire in 2016 and is proud to work as ambassador for top-quality Quroc Paddle Boards. She offers group and private yoga sessions and SUP Basics paddle board tuition. Lorna has paddled and practiced SUP Yoga around the UK, in Italy, France, Switzerland and Greece and is a foundation paddle-board instructor with the Water Skills Academy.
Lorna’s general classes focus on linking postures fluidly from one to another, using the breath as a guide, point of focus and way of channelling energy. Specific pranayama (breathing) exercises are included throughout the classes. All sessions end with short relaxation in savasana (lying down).Â
You can learn the basics of a calming breathing exercise here and see a simple version of the sun salutations here.
Lorna teaches people of all ages in her classes and in private sessions, both on and off the water, and considers their individual needs by adapting postures accordingly. She has a good knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and a range of physical conditions gained through both study and practical experience in yoga and various types of exercise.
Plant-based living Lorna is an advocate of a wholesome plant-based diet and lifestyle. She gained a Vegan Nutritionist Diploma and a Vegan Nutrition Health Coach Certification. She enjoys trying with new recipes using the vast amount of produce that her husband grows in their garden and allotment!Â
Natural Products: Lorna makes her own face, hand and body creams, soaps and oils, having completed a number of courses in these fields. She’s developed her own essential oil Pillow Sprays and Yoga Mat Sprays, which are available to buy.
In her spare time, alongside yoga and paddle boarding, Lorna enjoys all-year sea swimming and dinghy sailing in The Solent, cycling and walking. At home, she plays the piano for pleasure, and since her other love is language and languages, and she keeps her linguistic skills up by reading novels in French and Italian.Â
